Our Plan

These terms & prices apply to plans purchased Nov. 1, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2017. If you purchased our plan on or after Jan. 1, 2018, please see this page instead.

For your convenience, we've partnered with Travelex Insurance Services, one of the most respected names in the travel protection industry, to offer travelers on our tours & packages a competitively priced plan, with a wide range of benefits and an option allowing cancellation of your tour for any reason.

Basic Protection Plan: Benefits include coverage for trip cancellation, interruption or travel delays, medical emergency expenses and evacuation, lost or delayed baggage, missed cruise connections, and more.

Basic Protection Plan with Cancel for Any Reason Option: This upgrade includes all of the Basic Plan benefits, plus the Cancel for Any Reason benefit which allows you to cancel your Covered Trip, at least 2 days prior to your departure date, for ANY reason not covered by our Basic Protection Plan and get reimbursed for up to 75% of all non-refundable trip costs!

Who is eligible to purchase a Travelex Insurance Protection Plan for travel to Cuba?
Any citizen or permanent resident of the United States is eligible to purchase the travel protection plan for Cuba. A permanent resident must possess a US issued green card for residency in the United States.

Purchasing

To get the most out of our travel protection plan, we recommend purchasing the travel protection plan within 14 days of making your initial trip deposit to be eligible for the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions and Exclusions Waiver. You'll have the option to purchase the plan during the booking process.

Please Note: Our Basic Protection Plan with the Cancel for Any Reason Option must be purchased at the time of your initial trip booking/deposit payment. It cannot be added after your reservation has been completed.

Our Basic Protection Plan may be added to your booking up until you make your final payment. It cannot be purchased after we receive your final payment. To add the travel protection plan to an existing booking for a tour or package with Scheduled Dates, select the appropriate option on our Make A Payment Page before or when making your final payment. To add the travel protection plan to an existing booking for a package with Flexible Dates, please call us at 800-555-5765 prior to final payment.

If you have purchased (or plan to purchase) connecting flights from a vendor other than Friendly Planet, contact us before or when making your final payment and within 7 days of booking these flights so that we can include them in your coverage.

Price

The cost of our travel protection plan is determined by the total trip cost per person, including all travel expenses paid to Friendly Planet, plus the cost of any other travel arrangements related to your trip not purchased through Friendly Planet, if you request that we include them in your coverage.

Benefits & Coverage

This is a brief description of benefits. For a summary of plan details on benefits, coverage, limitations and exclusions of the protection plan, please refer to the PDFDescription of Coverage. If you are even contemplating a cancellation of your trip; please notify Travelex immediately. They can advise you as to your options. Any delay may result in increased out of pocket expenses.

TRIP CANCELLATION & INTERRUPTION: Helps protect travel investments and recover non-refundable, prepaid trip costs if you need to cancel or interrupt your covered trip due to a covered reason.

To facilitate prompt claims settlement IMMEDIATELY call your Travel Supplier and the Claims Administrator, as listed within this Description of Coverage, to report your cancellation and avoid non-covered expenses due to late reporting. The Claims Administrator will then advise you on how to obtain the appropriate form to be completed by you and the attending Physician. If you fail to notify the appropriate Travel Supplier and the Claims Administrator of your cancellation within 72 hours of becoming aware of the need to cancel, your travel protection will pay only the penalties you were subject to at the time of becoming aware of the need to cancel. If you are medically unable to notify the appropriate Travel Supplier and the Claims Administrator within 72 hours, you must notify them as soon as medically possible

TRIP DELAY: Provides reimbursement of up to $1,000 for additional expenses such as accommodations, meals and local transportation, if your trip is delayed 5 hours or more for a covered reason. Trip Delay does not reimburse for expenses incurred after travel becomes possible.

BAGGAGE & BAGGAGE DELAY: Provides reimbursement up to $1,000 (Baggage & Personal Effects)/$250 (Delay) for personal articles and expenses if bags are lost, stolen, damaged or delayed for 12 hours or more.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL & DENTAL EXPENSES: Provides coverage up to $50,000 (Medical Expense) and up to $750 (Dental Expense) for emergency medical treatment if an unforeseen sickness or accidental injury occurs while traveling.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION & REPATRIATION: Provides coverage up to $100,000 for Emergency Evacuation & Repatriation. Covers costs of transportation for an emergency evacuation to the nearest suitable hospital (also includes repatriation).

24-HOUR ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT: Provides coverage up to $50,000 for loss of life, limbs or sight from a covered accidental injury anytime during your Covered Trip.

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE & CONCIERGE SERVICES: Includes a wide range of services before and during a Covered Trip through a 24/7 toll-free number. This includes assistance with medical emergencies, lost documents or baggage, event ticketing, business services, and much more.

Cancel for Any Reason Option

This optional benefit allows you to cancel your Covered Trip for ANY reason not covered by our Basic Protection Plan and receive up to 75% reimbursement of all non-refundable payments you have made towards your trip, provided all requirements are met.

Examples of when you could benefit from this enhanced coverage:

  • You have a friend or relative expecting a newborn baby close to your departure date
  • You're a professional who may have an unexpected work conflict
  • You're traveling with a significant other in a new relationship

How it works:

  • If you have to cancel your reservation, contact us immediately, at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure. (If you simply don't show up for your tour, you will not be covered.)
  • If you are cancelling for a reason normally covered by our Basic Protection Plan, you are eligible for up to 100% reimbursement of all non-refundable payments up to the maximum benefit.
  • If you are cancelling for any reason NOT covered by our Basic Protection Plan, you are eligible for up to 75% reimbursement of all non-refundable payments up to the maximum benefit.
  • All other terms and conditions of the policy are exactly the same as the Basic Protection Plan.

PLEASE NOTE: Our Basic Protection Plan with the Cancel for Any Reason Option must be purchased at the time of your initial trip booking/deposit payment. It cannot be added after your reservation has been completed.

Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion Waiver

The pre-existing condition exclusion will be waived at no additional cost provided that you purchase the travel protection plan from us within 14 days of making the initial deposit payment for your trip, and you are not disabled from travel at the time of purchase.

Ten Day Review Period

If you are not completely satisfied with your coverage, contact us within 10 days of purchasing and we will refund your premium, provided you have not departed on your trip or filed a claim. After 10 days, the protection plan cost is non-refundable.

Travel Assistance & Concierge Services are provided by the designated provider listed on the Description of Coverage. This is a partial description of benefits.
