The temples and the monarchy are the fabric that binds Thailand's national identity, and Bangkok is home to some of the most fascinating Thai temples. Within its grounds, you'll also visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), a structure built to house a large Buddha image carved from a solid piece of green jadeite (jasper). Continue to Wat Pho, founded in the 17th century and the oldest temple in Bangkok. This temple is also home to the remarkable Reclining Buddha, one of the largest in the world, whose face depicts the attainment of Nirvana and whose feet are inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
The afternoon is leisurely to explore Bangkok on your own or join a locally available optional excursion.
Optional Excursion: Evening Flavor of Nighttime Chinatown (purchased locally), $79As the sun sets, Bangkok transforms into a playground of lights, sounds, and, best of all, mouthwatering aromas. This evening, dive into the backstreets and buzzing energy of Yaowarat Road. Along the way, you’ll uncover the neighborhood's history and meet some of the area’s most beloved street food vendors. Then, cross the canal to explore the nearby Baan Krua Thai Silk Weaving Community, where the story of silk continues. Borei Angkor Resort & Spa or similar Breakfast
Full Day ItineraryThis morning, set out early for one of Angkor’s true hidden gems: Banteay Srey. Often called the “Citadel of the Women,” this beautifully preserved temple is best viewed in the warm glow of the morning light. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, Banteay Srey is unlike any other temple in the Angkor complex; it is constructed entirely of pink sandstone, a material found nowhere else in the region. Despite its smaller scale, the temple features some of the most exquisite examples of classical Khmer art. Marvel at the intricate, delicate bas-reliefs that cover nearly every surface, many of which depict scenes from Hindu mythology, including the god Shiva. With its graceful carvings and unique rosy hue, it’s no wonder Banteay Srey is considered one of the crown jewels of Angkor.
After, stop by the Landmine Museum, which promotes mine awareness. The museum founder, Mr. Aki Ra, was trained as a child soldier during the Khmer Rouge regime. Today, he is working as a de-miner. The museum serves to educate and serve as a rescue center for several landmine amputee children that Aki Ra has brought off Phnom Penh's streets or from impoverished rural communities.
Later, continue to the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s most iconic temple and a true wonder of the ancient world. Built in the early 12th century under King Suryavarman II, this massive complex was designed as a symbolic representation of Mount Meru, the mythical home of the gods in Hindu cosmology. Intended as both a state temple and the king’s spiritual resting place, Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.
As you explore the temple, you’ll find nearly every surface adorned with intricate carvings, including detailed scenes from Hindu mythology, epic battles from the reign of Suryavarman II, and more than 2,000 beautifully sculpted Apsara dancers, each with unique expressions and poses. It’s believed the construction took nearly 40 years of intense labor, and the result is nothing short of breathtaking.
Then, explore a meaningful local initiative that celebrates Cambodia’s artistic heritage. At Satcha, creativity and tradition thrive side by side. This unique social enterprise offers talented Cambodian artisans a safe, nurturing space to practice their crafts, receive professional training, and develop the skills they need to become independent artistic entrepreneurs. It’s a place where local talent is empowered and age-old craftsmanship is kept alive for future generations.
Stroll through the peaceful garden setting and observe artisans practicing their crafts, from stone and wood carving to basket weaving, painting, and more. Your guide will share insight into each art form and explain how Satcha empowers local artists while preserving Cambodia’s time-honored skills.
This evening is yours to relax or explore at your own pace.
Day 6 Angkor Explorations
- Tour the Roluos Group: Preah Ko, Bakong, and Lolei temples
- Explore the temples of the Small Circuit
- Tour the royal walled city of Angkor Thom
- Visit the Bayon Temple in the exact center of the city
- Enjoy dinner at a local NGO-run restaurant
Borei Angkor Resort & Spa or similar Breakfast & dinner
Full Day ItineraryEarly this morning, explore the early Angkorian temples of the Roluos Group, located in what was once the ancient Khmer capital of Hariharalaya. This important archaeological site marks the beginnings of the great Angkor civilization and includes three remarkable temples: Preah Ko, Bakong, and Lolei, built in the 8th and 9th centuries by King Indravarman I and his successor. Surrounded by peaceful countryside dotted with rice paddies and sugar palm trees, this area offers a glimpse into traditional Cambodian life. Soak in the natural beauty and connect with the local community on a charming ox cart rideor by remork (Cambodian tuk-tuk.)
Then, explore the highlights of Angkor’s Small Circuit, beginning with the iconic Ta Prohm temple. Built in the mid-12th to early 13th centuries, Ta Prohm is one of the most atmospheric and photogenic temples in the entire Angkor complex. Unlike many others, it has been left largely in the state it was found: overgrown with jungle trees and thick vines, with crumbling stone walls that seem to blend into the forest.
Next, step into the ancient city of Angkor Thom, the last great capital of the Khmer Empire under King Jayavarman VII. Surrounded by towering 8-meter-high walls and laid out in a perfect square, Angkor Thom is both grand in scale and rich in symbolism. Enter the city through the impressive South Gate, adorned with stone elephants and four massive faces carved into the towers. As you approach, you’ll pass a dramatic causeway flanked by 54 gods and demons, each grasping the sacred Naga serpent, an awe-inspiring welcome into this historic site.
Begin your exploration at the Terrace of the Elephants and the Royal Palace enclosure, nestled within forested grounds. Continue to the Phimeanakas and the Baphuon, and then make your way to the magnificent Bayon Temple, the spiritual heart of Angkor Thom. Stroll through its lower galleries to see intricate carvings depicting daily life in the 11th century, then take a quiet moment outside the temple to admire its 52 towers, each topped with a serene face of the Buddha gazing out over the jungle.
Later, enjoy dinner at a local NGO-run restaurant, an authentic and meaningful way to cap off your day while supporting a good cause.
Optional Excursion: Gondola Boat at Angkor Thom (purchased locally), $26After exploring Bayon, head to the tranquil moat of Angkor Thom, where a private gondola paddle boat awaits. Glide along the peaceful waters in the afternoon light, surrounded by blooming lotus flowers, fluttering dragonflies, and birds nesting in the trees along the ancient city walls. Take in the serenity and soft glow of the setting sun as you drift along this scenic stretch of Angkor’s moat. After a relaxing break on the water, your boat will gently return you to the South Gate. Later, return to your hotel via tuk-tuk.
Note: This optional excursion is sold locally at approximately 26 USD per person based on two passengers.

Amari Phuket or similar Breakfast
Full Day ItinerarySpend two full days at leisure to relax, shop, or tour this scenic island, Thailand's largest. Phuket and the 39 smaller islands to the southeast are studded with tropical forests, mountains, gravity-defying limestone formations, and pristine beaches, surrounded by coral reefs and the aquamarine water of the balmy Andaman Sea. The west coast of Phuket was hit severely by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004. Still, the resilient people have quickly rebuilt it, and almost no evidence of the damage now remains. Phuket is a melting pot of Buddhists, Thai-Chinese, Muslims, and even sea gypsies, whom you'll find warm and welcoming.
With warm, humid weather year-round, you'll enjoy plenty of sun-drenched days lounging on the beach and all types of water sports, including jet-skiing, parasailing, surfing, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Most of the dive locations are suitable for all skill levels. The waters abound with colorful coral forests, tropical fish, and other marine life, including leopard sharks, moray eels, octopus, and turtles.
Phuket is also the sailing and yachting center of Thailand and adjacent countries, with several races and regattas happening throughout the year.
